Pest control in Amsterdam
Amsterdam's buildings are old, tall and packed closely together, so pests move easily from one home to the next. Below you can see which problems we deal with and how.
Mouse control
In old Amsterdam buildings, mice travel along floor joists, service shafts and gaps of about 6 mm. We trace their routes, treat in a targeted way and then seal the entry points properly.
Rat control
Rats living along the canals and quays often find their way in through damaged sewer pipes. We deal with them in and around your home and advise on fitting a rat valve.
Wasp nest removal
A wasp nest in a cavity wall, under the roof tiles or in a balcony planter? We prefer to treat it in the evening, when the wasps are back inside.
Bed bug treatment
A city break, a house guest or a flea-market sofa: bed bugs hitch a ride everywhere, and in a city full of hotels that happens often. We find them in seams and cracks and treat with heat.
Flea treatment
Fleas usually arrive with a dog or cat. Your pet goes to the vet, while we take care of the home, from the gaps between the floorboards to the sofa.
Cockroach control
In the warm kitchens of Amsterdam restaurants, hotels and large blocks, German cockroaches can multiply fast. We put gel bait where they shelter and help you find out why they came.
Ant control
Garden ants under the patio and pharaoh ants in a heated apartment block each need a different approach. We identify the species first, then target the colony.
Woodworm treatment
Centuries-old beams in canal houses and antique furniture are vulnerable to woodworm and house longhorn beetle. We check whether the damage is still active and advise on the right treatment.
Other pests
Silverfish in a basement flat, moths in your woollen coats, spiders, a stone marten in the loft or pigeons on the dormer: just ask whether we can help with that too.
From your call to a pest-free home
A quick phone call
Ring whenever it suits you, even in the middle of the night or on a Sunday. Describe what you see or hear and we will book an appointment promptly.
Cellar-to-roof inspection
An expert walks through the building looking for signs, nests and entry points. This visit costs €90 including call-out fee and VAT.
Work starts once agreed
If you accept the price, we carry out targeted treatment and close the holes the pests used to get into your home.
Tips for afterwards
We explain what you can do yourself, and what to arrange with neighbours or the VvE, so the chance of a repeat goes down.
Pest control prices in Amsterdam
Clear pricing: the inspection costs from €90 and you hear the price of the treatment in advance.
Every job with Ongediertebestrijding Amsterdam starts with an inspection for €90 including the call-out fee and VAT. Whether you live in the Jordaan or in Zuidoost, the amount stays the same. During the visit we identify the pest, how serious the problem is and where it is getting in, so you know exactly what you are dealing with.
The cost of treatment is discussed after the inspection and fixed before we do anything. Mice under one timber floor are quicker to sort out than bed bugs throughout an upstairs flat, and sometimes several visits are needed. So the type of pest, the extent of the problem and the number of visits determine the price. You decide whether we go ahead.

Local pest control for every Amsterdam district
Ongediertebestrijding Amsterdam works for residents, VvEs (owners' associations), restaurants, bars and businesses in every district, and can be reached 24/7. We put inspection and prevention first: closing openings, removing food sources and only then using targeted control. This is known as integrated pest management. Professional rodenticides may only be used by certified pest controllers, and our accredited experts handle them with care.
Amsterdam presents its own pest challenges. The canal ring is lined with narrow, centuries-old houses with timber floors and cellars, where mice move unseen from one neighbour to the next. Along the canals and the IJ, rats live close to homes and houseboats. In West and Zuid, walk-up flats share stairwells and service shafts, while restaurants and rubbish bags on the pavement give pests in the centre a steady food supply. That is why we always look beyond a single home.
We work quickly, at a sharp price and discreetly. After treatment our expert explains what you can do yourself: seal gaps, keep food in closed containers and store rubbish out of reach. That way you reduce the chance of the problem returning next year.
Service area: all of Amsterdam and the surrounding area
Amsterdam has over 900,000 residents; our pest controllers cover every district and the surrounding towns.
Also in the region: Amstelveen, Diemen, Duivendrecht, Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, Landsmeer, Oostzaan, Zaandam, Badhoevedorp

A clear price up front
After the inspection you know exactly where you stand. There are no surprises afterwards, because we agree the price of the treatment together.
Evenings and weekends too
Mice and wasps do not keep office hours. We are available 24/7 and also come out on Saturdays and Sundays.
Advice that actually helps
We explain what we found, why the problem started and how to prevent it in future. Customers value that as much as the treatment itself.
Frequently asked questions
How much does pest control in Amsterdam cost?
You start with an inspection for €90 including the call-out fee and VAT. Only then do we know what is going on and can we quote for the treatment. That price is agreed in advance and depends on the pest, how big the problem is and how often we need to come back. Without your agreement, you are not committed to anything.
Can you come in the evening or at the weekend?
Yes. Pests do not pick convenient moments, so we can be reached 24/7 and work all seven days of the week. Ring us and we will find a time as soon as possible. If there is a wasp nest by a child's bedroom or a rat running through the kitchen, we take that urgency into account.
Can children and pets stay at home as usual?
Usually, yes. Bait sits inside sealed bait boxes, and gel for cockroaches or ants goes into cracks that small hands and paws cannot get to. Occasionally we ask you to keep a room shut for a few hours or cover a fish tank. We always discuss that with you first.
How can I prepare for your visit?
Do not clean up droppings yet: their shape and location tell us which animal it is and where it runs. Put food in closed containers and keep rubbish bags indoors until collection time. Wasps? Keep away from the nest. If you suspect bed bugs, wash your bedding at 60 degrees in advance.
We live on a houseboat. Can you help us too?
Certainly. Houseboats sit close to quays and water, where rats and mice feel at home. We check where pipes and cables come in, the drainage and the link between the quay and the boat. Then we treat in a targeted way and advise you on sealing any openings for good.
How do I know if I have mice, and where do they come from?
Small black droppings in cupboards, gnawed packaging and scratching in the floor or ceiling are clear signs. In Amsterdam buildings, mice often come in via the crawl space, the cellar or open pipe ducts from next door. A hole the width of a pencil is already big enough for a mouse.
I see rats along the canal or by the bins. Who deals with that?
For rats in the street, in green spaces or along the water, the gemeente Amsterdam is the right point of contact, and you can report them there. If they get into your home, garden or cellar, you have come to the right place. We often find a broken sewer pipe, and a drainage specialist can then inspect it with a camera.

Pest control in Amsterdam: help in every district
A city with miles of canals and quays, a centre full of centuries-old buildings and countless restaurants and bars is an attractive place for mice, rats and insects. Ongediertebestrijding Amsterdam helps residents, VvEs, hospitality venues and businesses get rid of pests quickly and professionally. We are available 24/7 and work seven days a week, from Centrum to Nieuw-West and from Noord to Zuidoost.
Our pest control in Amsterdam begins with looking: where are the pests getting in, and what is drawing them? Only once those questions are answered do we treat and block the routes. That way both the infestation and its cause disappear.
Mouse control in Amsterdam
Mice are regular guests in older Amsterdam homes, especially once the weather turns colder in autumn. You will recognise them by small black droppings, gnawed packaging and scratching behind the skirting boards or above the ceiling. In canal houses and walk-up flats they travel along timber joists, crawl spaces and service shafts between neighbouring homes. They need a gap of only about 6 mm.
Our mouse control starts with detective work: which beam, pipe or crack are they using? Only then do we set bait boxes or traps where only mice go, and seal gaps with wire wool, sealant or a vent cover. Tip: keep cereals, rice and pet food in containers with tight lids, and involve your neighbours or the VvE if the problem is shared.
Rat control in Amsterdam
In Amsterdam the brown rat lives close to the water: along the canals, the quays and the IJ, and underground in the sewers. It gets in through broken sewer pipes, loose drain covers or openings in the crawl space. Signs include larger droppings, greasy smears along walls, burrows in the garden and scratching under the floor at night.
Our rat control begins with finding the way in. A non-return rat valve in the drain is often part of the answer, along with a camera survey of the pipes by a drainage firm. Rats in the street, in a green space or along a canal should be reported to the gemeente Amsterdam. Only put rubbish bags outside when they are due to be collected, or take them straight to a container.
Wasp nest removal in Amsterdam
In summer and late summer we find wasp nests in Amsterdam in cavity walls, under roof tiles, behind the cladding of dormer windows and in sheds on allotments. If you see wasps flying in and out of the same spot, the nest is usually close by. On a balcony or roof terrace you often only notice them once they start buzzing around your food.
We like to tackle a wasp nest early in the evening, when nearly the whole colony is home and the treatment reaches the entire nest. A nest in a cavity wall can be reached through the entrance hole. Sealing or knocking it down yourself may seem handy, but it forces the wasps to find a new exit, which is quite often on the inside of your wall.
Bed bug treatment in Amsterdam
In a city with so many hotels, hostels, holiday lets and travellers, bed bugs easily hitch a ride in suitcases, backpacks and second-hand furniture. You notice them through itchy bites in a row, small blood spots on the sheets and black specks along the edges of the mattress and bed frame. During the day they hide in cracks in the bed, behind skirting boards and around sockets.
We treat bed bugs with heat and check afterwards that the infestation has really gone. Picking up a second-hand sofa or bed from an online listing or a market? Check the seams carefully before it comes inside. After travelling, keep your suitcase off the bed and unpack it on a hard floor.
Flea treatment in Amsterdam
Fleas almost always come in with a dog or cat, and sometimes they are left behind by a previous tenant. They lay their eggs in rugs, pet baskets and the gaps of old wooden floors, which many Amsterdam homes still have. If you spot tiny black jumping insects or get bitten around the ankles, it is time to act.
Always have your pet treated by the vet. At the same time we treat the home, so that eggs and larvae are dealt with as well. Vacuum thoroughly beforehand, including under furniture and along the skirting boards, and throw the vacuum bag away outside straight afterwards.
Cockroach control in Amsterdam
In Amsterdam we mainly see the German cockroach in restaurant kitchens, hotels and large apartment buildings. It loves warmth and moisture and hides behind fridges, dishwashers and in the spaces around pipes. You rarely see them during the day; switch on the light at night and they scatter.
We place gel bait right in their hiding spots, and on a follow-up visit we check that numbers are falling. For restaurants and cafés that need pest control in Amsterdam, we fit the treatment around opening hours and the kitchen routine. At home it helps to deal with crumbs, grease and dripping taps straight away.
Woodworm treatment in Amsterdam
Many Amsterdam buildings still have their original timber beams, floors and roof structures. The larvae of the furniture beetle or the house longhorn beetle can chew through that wood unnoticed for years. Small round holes with little heaps of fine bore dust are the classic sign. House longhorn holes are oval and larger, and you may hear a faint gnawing sound in the roof.
Not every hole means larvae are still at work; many are traces from long ago. So we first look for fresh bore dust and new exit holes, and only then advise on treating beams or furniture. Keep lofts and cellars dry and well ventilated, as damp wood attracts woodworm.
Moth control in Amsterdam
Small holes in woollen jumpers or webbing in the food cupboard? Then you are dealing with clothes moths or pantry moths. Clothes moths like dark wardrobes full of wool, silk and fur that are rarely opened. Pantry moths often arrive in a bag of flour, nuts or birdseed from the shop.
We identify the species, treat cupboards and cracks and hang pheromone traps to monitor the problem. With pantry moths, throw away any affected products and store new supplies in glass jars. Wash clothes before putting them away for a long time and keep them in sealed bags.
Pigeon control in Amsterdam
Around Dam Square, at stations and on many façades in the centre, pigeons are a familiar sight. For residents and business owners they are mostly a nuisance: droppings on windowsills and balconies, nesting material in gutters and cooing under the eaves. Their droppings also damage façades and roofing.
We install pigeon deterrents that suit the building, such as spikes on ledges, netting for courtyards and balconies, or thin wires along roof edges. On listed buildings we look for a solution together that does not damage the façade. Never feed pigeons, not even with leftover bread on the balcony.
Ant control in Amsterdam
Most ants indoors are black garden ants that lay a food trail from the garden or from under the paving into your kitchen. Pharaoh ants are trickier: tiny, yellowish ants that live in warm, heated buildings such as large blocks of flats and care homes. They spread through the whole building via service shafts.
We tackle garden ants at the nest and along their trail. Pharaoh ants need a specialist approach with bait, because spraying can actually split the colony. Wipe up sugary spills and crumbs straight away and keep food sealed, and your kitchen becomes far less attractive.
Silverfish control in Amsterdam
Switch on the bathroom light at night and see something silvery dart under the skirting board? That is a silverfish. They do no harm, but they do give away that there is damp somewhere. That is why they are more common in older Amsterdam homes with a cellar or a poorly ventilated bathroom.
We treat the spots where they hide and work with you to find the source of the moisture. A leaking drain, damaged sealant or too little ventilation is often the cause. Leave the extractor fan running after a shower and open a window slightly.
Hornet nest removal in Amsterdam
For some years now the Asian hornet has been turning up in more and more places in the Netherlands. You can recognise it by its almost black thorax, the orange-yellow band on its abdomen and the yellow 'socks' on its legs. In spring it sometimes starts with a small nest under a canopy or in a shed. The large summer nest often hangs high in a treetop, for instance in a city park or among the elms along a canal, and only becomes visible when the leaves fall in autumn.
If you see an Asian hornet, report it on waarneming.nl. Have a nest near your home removed by a professional with the right equipment and keep your distance. We only remove a nest of the native European hornet if it is genuinely causing problems.
Bee nest removal in Amsterdam
A swarm of honey bees in your tree or a nest in an old wall can look alarming, but we do not exterminate honey bees. They are important pollinators, and a beekeeper is usually glad to collect a swarm. We first help you work out whether you are dealing with bees, wasps or bumblebees.
If they are honey bees, we refer you to a beekeeper who can relocate the swarm. A bumblebee nest in a cavity or bird box has died out by the end of summer, so as long as it causes no real trouble, we leave it be. Only if a nest really cannot stay do we look for a responsible solution together.
What does pest control cost in Amsterdam?
When you book pest control in Amsterdam with Ongediertebestrijding Amsterdam, the price is fixed before anything happens. Every job begins with an inspection for €90 including the call-out fee and VAT, whether you live in the Jordaan or in Osdorp. During that visit we map out the infestation, its cause and the entry points.
Based on that, you get a price for the treatment, which we agree with you in advance. Three things decide that price: which animal it is, how far it has spread and how often we need to come. A VvE with mice in several flats simply needs a different approach from a single wasp nest. We only start once you have said yes.
